A portrait of Portugese artists' model, Madalena. Maddy explored colour variety and harmony in this soft painting with the use of oil glazing techniques. This is unusual as more often her work is painted alla prima (in one sitting), or close to. Glazing requires paint to be fully dry before applying the next layer.
 
Spot the highlights on the model's cheek, forehead, and shoulder - they appear light but still full of colour as the layers of oil and paint interact with the light shining through them. The dark brunette hair is also full of colour.
