This is Maddy's favourite landscape painting since 'Pen Ponds, Richmond Park'. It shows her development in confidence to paint landscapes with slightly more abstraction. A real celebration of paint, it is full of texture and highly pigmented colours and treads the line between realist and abstract.
The reflections of the trees in the water and the colours towards the top of the sky are Maddy's favourite moments in this painting.
Maddy says: "I see it more and more in my landscape paintings as time as gone on - the movement of colour moments across a painting, everything is tied together, I'm no longer painting literally, but with more feeling and atmosphere."
The moment of cadmium red towards the right side of the painting suggests the presence of a fellow landscape artist, Avril, who was sitting around the far side of the pond in a red coat.
