I wanted to take a moment to share a little more in depth about the heart of my work, what makes it unique, and why it might just be the perfect fit for your home or as a gift for someone special. Whether you're a seasoned art collector, someone looking to celebrate a milestone, or just curious about me or what drives me, I hope this piece offers a pleasant glimpse into my creative world.
Seeing the World Differently

For me, artworks emerge from how I see the physical world — through shapes of light and shadow, the subtle curves of an object, or the way a particular texture interacts with a colour. My work is rooted primarily in real life, and only secondarily in the symbolism we often project onto objects. Take eggs, for example. I paint a lot of these as you may have seen! I see enormous beauty in their simplicity. They are the epitome of elegant, excellent design. The subtle shape, the rich colours of the yolks, and the great challenge of painting their glossy, gooey whites.
Of course, eggs can symbolize all sorts of things: birth and fertility, creation, resurrection (think Easter!), wholeness, wealth, nourishment, delicacy, good luck (in China, particularly!), or simply an unbeatably-delicious breakfast. For me, they’re primarily just fascinating and a joy to paint. Still, I’ve found that viewers often find their own connections and interpretations to those symbolic layers, too, which I absolutely love. It makes the experience of owning my work deeply personal and, to me, a really really beautiful thing.
Craftsmanship Backed by Classical Training

My artistic journey started with rigorous classical training, particularly in drawing, and to date I have spent thousands of hours learning and refining my skills. One thing that sets my work apart is that I create primarily from life, rarely from photographs. This approach gives my paintings a liveliness, vibrancy, and depth that’s hard to replicate. I’ve written about this method a lot before and will continue to sing its praises!
On top of that, my years of teaching have - hopefully - improved my ability to communicate the nuances of my craft—whether it’s the composition of a piece, the interplay of colour and values, the artistic choices I’ve made, the problems each brushstroke is aiming to solve. These layers of thought and technique go into each and every painting, a thousand times over, making each a labour of love.
What Makes My Art Unique

While my foundations are firmly rooted in classical realism, I’m also a bit of a rule-breaker. I love to experiment, whether it’s exaggerating chroma, loosening my brushstrokes, or heading into more abstract landscapes. This balance between structure and play gives my work a distinct voice that I really hope feels like it could never have come off an assembly line. And thanks to my concurrent experience in sculpture, I approach all of my two-dimensional work with a three-dimensional mindset—ensuring my work never feels flat.
Another feature of my art is its exclusivity. Unlike many artists, I don’t currently produce giclee prints to churn out sales. Every piece I create is one of a kind, infused with the energy and concentration of the moment it was made.
The Emotional Connection
At the end of the day, my goal is simple: to create art that brings joy and beauty to your life. I love hearing how a painting of mine has brightened someone’s home, sparked a conversation, or marked a meaningful occasion. Whether it’s a still life, a portrait, or a landscape, each piece is crafted to resonate emotionally, combining technical skill with a little bit of magic.
Why My Art Might Be Perfect for You
Art of course is such a personal choice, but here are a few reasons you might find that my work speaks to you:
For the Connoisseur: If you value artistry backed by skill and depth, my pieces offer a timeless addition to your collection.
For the Thoughtful Gifter: Looking for a one-of-a-kind gift that feels meaningful? My watercolours of specific locations (I particularly enjoy painting the doors of wedding venues and cherished homes) or unique still life paintings make for heartfelt, unforgettable presents.
For the Supporter of Stories: Perhaps you connect with my journey—leaving a career in financial services to follow my passion for art later in life. By owning my work, you’re not just getting a painting; you’re supporting a story of reinvention and creativity. It always means more than you know when you buy from a small business owner.
